Power Apps Environments

What is a Power Apps Environment?

A Power Apps Environment is a space inside a tenant to store business data, automations app along with other objects. A tenant can have multiple environments, these can be shared across the tenant with different users and security groups. Each environment has it’s own set of settings and data which doesn’t affect the other environments within the tenant.

What Are The Different Environment Types?

There are a few different types of environments which can be set up within the tenant.
  • Trial
  • Developer
  • Sandbox
  • Production
Each of these environments has their own functionality and use case. There is also a Default environment which is automatically set up within your Microsoft Subscription. It is recommended not to use this environment as all users within the environment can see this and has is limited by it’s security.

Which Environment Should I use?

The table below gives a brief outline of what each environment is used for:
Type Description Security

Default This environment is set up by default all users have have direct access to this environment with limited control, this environment is not intended for production use Limited control. All licensed users have the environment maker role.
Sandbox These are nonproduction environments used for testing before deploying to production environment Full control when used for testing
Trial Trial environments are intended for short term testing. Trial Environments last for 30days. These are good for single projects which can then be deleted later. Full control.
